Nickel 200 round bar is a metal alloy made up of 99% nickel and a little bit of copper. The high nickel content gives this round bar its ability to resist corrosion well when exposed to harsh chemicals. The added copper provides good strength without hurting the corrosion resistance. This winning combo makes Nickel 200 super versatile for making parts used in all kinds of critical applications across many different industries.
The main thing about the Nickel 200 round bar is its corrosion resistance. This can handle being in contact with some nasty acids, bases, salts, and other corrosives without getting damaged or worn away.
The high nickel is key for making it so resistant to corrosion. Nickel forms a protective oxide layer on the outside of the alloy’s outside, stopping its tracks. That’s why UNS N02200 Hexagonal Bar stands up so well against substances that would cause pitting, cracking, and failure in other metals.
Compared to stainless steel, DIN 2.4066 Square Bar has way better corrosion resistance, especially against hydrochloric acid and other reducing acids that can attack stainless. No need to worry about intergranular corrosion or stress corrosion cracking either – nickel 200 can deal with high stresses with no problem. It keeps its excellent properties even at high and low temps, from cryogenic freezing levels up to around 1200°F.
The thin, uniform layer of nickel oxide provides corrosion protection. It allows ASTM B160 Nickel 200 Flat Bar to be the go-to choice for handling hot caustics and other nasty chemicals used in chemical processing plants and oil refineries. It’s also great for brines and chlorides. Nuclear power relies on its neutron absorption abilities for control rods.
