Monel 400 round bar is a nickel-copper alloy containing around 67% and 28% copper. The nickel gives Monel 400 excellent corrosion resistance, while the copper boosts strength. This winning alloy mix makes Monel 400 incredibly versatile for various demanding applications.
The standout feature of the Monel 400 is its resistance to corrosion and oxidation. It forms a protective nickel oxide film on the surface that shields against corrosion damage. This allows Monel 400 to withstand exposure to various acids, alkalis, salts and other chemicals that would degrade ordinary metals.
ASTM B164 Monel 400 Threaded bar has better corrosion resistance than stainless steel, especially in reducing acids like hydrochloric acid. It is also unaffected by rapidly flowing seawater and steam, making it a popular choice for marine and power generation uses. It can even handle sulfuric acid at high concentrations and temperatures.
In addition to phenomenal corrosion resistance, DIN 2.436 Peeled Round Bar also offers excellent mechanical properties. It provides a robust combination of good tensile strength, yield strength, hardness and impact resistance. The alloy is also super ductile, especially in the annealed condition. This high ductility allows for complex fabrications.
It can be readily hot-worked, cold-worked, machined, formed and joined using standard workshop methods. It can be polished to an ultra-smooth, reflective finish. So, it’s easy to produce specialised parts and components from UNS N04400 Hexagonal Bar stock for critical applications.
It is commonly machined into valves, fittings, fasteners and other components for use in chemical plants, power plants, food processing, marine systems and even medical devices.
To get the best corrosion resistance when welding JIS NW 4400 Hot Rolled Bar, the welded region should be annealed afterwards to restore the alloy’s properties. ParSolutioning and rapid quenching can enhance properties.
