Chromium assists in the formation of a protective oxide layer on the surface, which prevents corrosion and oxidation.Smaller amounts of other alloying elements like aluminum, titanium, cobalt, and carbon are also present in the UNS N09901 Hot Rolled Coils. The careful balance of these alloying ingredients gives the plate exceptional high-temperature properties up to 1800°F while maintaining good fabricability and weldability. When heated, UNS N09901 Perforated Sheets forms a tightly adherent chromium-rich oxide film on the surface. This protective layer shields the underlying metal from further attack. The oxide film reforms quickly, even if damaged, enabling excellent resistance to corrosion, oxidation, and other high-temperature damage. This makes the Incoloy 901 plate ideal for processes involving hot, corrosive environments.

The austenitic microstructure of the Incoloy 901 plate delivers strength across a wide temperature range, from cryogenic up to 1800°F. Minimum tensile strength exceeds 100 ksi up to 1500°F. Resistance to creep rupture, stress rupture, thermal fatigue and general oxidation hold up well past 1500°F. This combination of strength and stability permits lighter sections to be used, minimizing weight in high-temperature designs.
