The Incoloy 800HT is the plate product of the nickel-iron-chromium alloy. This alloy displays good strength and corrosion resistance properties. The plate is usually employed in heat exchangers and other heat transfer apparatuses. It can withstand temperatures up to 1,650°F. The alloy has nickel, chromium, iron, carbon, manganese, silicon, sulphur, copper, aluminium, titanium, and cobalt.
The percentages of the metals in Incoloy 800HT range between 30-35 % nickel, 19-23 % chromium and at least 39.5 % iron. Carbon ranges from 0.05-0.10 %, manganese is 1% maximum, silicon is 0.5% maximum, sulphur is 0.
Nickel imparts to UNS N08811 Cold Rolled Sheet high strength and toughness even at high temperatures. Chromium provides corrosion and oxidation resistance. Iron gives the alloy the bulk majority. Carbon is bound with other elements to improve the substance.
Manganese and silicon increase corrosion resistance. Sulphur is being kept low to prevent brittleness caused by high temperatures. Copper increases the sulphur corrosion resistance. Aluminium increases scaling resistance. Titanium binds carbon. Cobalt enhances hot workability.
In addition to high strength at high temperatures and corrosion resistance, the alloy possesses other favourable characteristics. It also has good ductility, formability, and weldability. The ASME SB409 Incoloy 800HT Hot Rolled Sheet is weldable with common fusion and resistance welding processes as well. It is normally supplied in annealed and plate form.
The plate is resistant to oxidation, carburization and other undesirable effects of hydrocarbon processing environments. It also withstands corrosion in sulphur and sulphur compounds. This renders it a good fit for the hydroprocessing of petroleum and petrochemicals.
The high-temperature strength of Incoloy 800HT enables thinner sections to be used, resulting in better heat transfer. The other advantage of its good thermal conductivity for heat exchangers is as well.
