Monel K500 is a metal alloy round bar. It is made mostly of nickel and copper. This metal stands out for its strength, durability and resistance to corrosion. Many industries use it for its versatility. These include oil and gas, marine engineering, food processing and chemical manufacturing.
What makes the Monel K500 round bar special is its maximum nickel per cent compared to other nickel alloys. It has at least 63% nickel. It also contains iron, manganese, silicon and carbon. The high nickel protects very well against water, steam, oil, alkalis and acids. The extra copper increases the strength. And the iron content makes it easier to shape.
ASTM B164 Monel K500 triangle bar are very strong and hard. Their tensile strength ranges from 170,000 to 220,000 pounds per square inch. Their yield strength reaches between 140,000 to 170,000 psi. For hardness, the Brinell scale is from 150 to 190. These excellent mechanical properties come from how the alloy is heat-treated and strengthened. Its crystal structure also helps.
Fabricating with JIS NW 5500 Rectangular Bar is relatively easy. It machines decently well because of the iron. Shaping processes like turning, drilling, milling, planning and sawing all work. Welding it by GTAW and GMAW can be done at moderate levels. Brazing successfully joins it when the joints don’t require high strength. For heat treatment, hot working happens between 1,750-2,250°F. Cold working stays below a critical strain rate level. Annealing restores the ductility at 1,450-1,700°F if needed.
An interesting feature of the UNS N05500 Black Bar is its work-hardening ability. When mechanically stressed, it strains, making the surface harder without becoming brittle. This trait suits it perfectly for applications involving movement and dynamics. It also stands up very well to fatigue and high temperatures over time.
